Course Update

Last week we finished aerifying tees and they have been top dressed. We are getting very close to completing the fairway top dressing with just #6 fairway and #7 approach left.
Here is where we stand on the Bunker project:
  • Bunkers on #1 will be wrapping up this weekend
  • The shaping of #2 bunkers is in progress
  • The Tee Extension on #2 is in progress
  • #6 Bunkers has commenced this Saturday morning
  • Once we get close to completing the bunkers on #6 and the short game we will call in the polymer application and then begin to add the sand on holes 1,2,3,6 and the short game.
  • The back bunkers are open but please mind any new sod and enter at the lowest points
  • The front bunkers are closed until the sod roots into the soil
  • The new approach extensions on #11,#13 and #18 are ground under repair.
The greens have been rolled and fertilize to promote closing of the aerification holes.  The haul roads are being seeded and straw laid down to trap in moisture. The trees on #3 have been relocated to the areas between #11 and #18 and to the left of the ladies Tee on #11. And mulch has been flying out around the trees.

Project Update

We have been very busy knocking out our ever growing list before we really get into maintaining the golf course. Most recently the pool shade structures arrived in about 9 crates that ranged from 8 feet in length to 12 feet. As you are aware we were buttoning up the inside wall for the pump house and then it hit me. I can use the crates as my wall. So we proceeded to brake them down literally board by board and nail them up. This would be a very good example of recycling or re purposing this wood. While we were at the pool we installed a a little drainage and we hope that this solved this issue, it looks like there were two gutter down spouts and another drainage pipe that just converged on top of that area. A notable high light yesterday was the initial start up for our new pump station. Everything went well and we will begin the annual irrigation inspection out on the course to verify any leaks and repair them along with proper irrigation head inspections.

With our seasonal staff returning we utilized them to continue mulching of the golf course and seeding and laying down straw on cart path edges and haul roads from the construction traffic. Today our goal is to aerify as many Tees as possible with an end goal of having them top dressed by tomorrow afternoon.

This past weekend we received rain to sleet to snow in a matter of two days that accumulated about 2.5 inches. And once again the bunkers held up great.

This picture speaks for itself after 2.5 inches.

In case any body forgot why we are redoing the bunkers,
this was taken last year after the same amount of rain fall.

Pretty much sums up this Winter for Us

We have finally been able to get over and finish the fairway extension on #8. We had to blow off the recent snow to find the fairway line, but everything worked out. We also took advantage of the snow and finished up some last minute painting on our tee markers and trash cans for the season. Once the snow melts we will resume our greens aerification on the front and next week we plan to aerify the tees.

Progress Report

Last Friday we had the bunker polymer applicators arrive to find a steady drizzle. That right there pretty much sums up how mother nature and our wonderful weather people have been calling it. But we did luck out on Saturday and these guys made a great push to spray holes 4,5,7,8. This is really a big deal to us, the applicators come from New York and as stated before scheduling around what you might think the weather will do has been a night mare. Hole #3 is shaping up very nicely and then we will be moving on to #1, #2 and the short game. That big pile of bunker sand is about gone and more should be arriving by the day, that puts them very close to completing the bunkers on #8. We shifted to that hole instead of #10 because we have a haul rode that needs seed and straw laid down as soon as the heavy equipment is finished driving through there.

Our greens aerification is almost complete for the spring and we will be looking at aerifying the Tees as soon as possible. The pump house building drainage has about another hour of work left and it is a great feeling to have it finally dry inside the building, Our seasonal staff returns next week, that could not have come at a better time because our list just keeps growing and growing. So look for us in the following weeks to really turn it on and start to dominate out on the golf course, of course if mother nature will let me!
